SUMMARY:Pat Metheny: Side-Eye III+
DESCRIPTION:Pat Metheny returns to The Parker for two nights as he launches his newest project Side-Eye—a fresh musical environment and rotating ensemble featuring rising stars and kindred spirits in jazz.Born in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Metheny began on trumpet before switching to guitar at 12. By 15, he was performing with Kansas City’s top jazz musicians. He made his international debut in 1974 with vibraphonist Gary Burton, quickly earning recognition for his horn-like phrasing, modern improvisation, and deep roots in swing, melody, and the blues. His groundbreaking debut album Bright Size Life (1975) redefined the sound of jazz guitar for a new generation.Metheny has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Steve Reich, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, David Bowie, and Milton Nascimento. His prolific output spans solo guitar, orchestral works, ballet scores, and genre-defying innovations such as his Orchestrion project. A pioneer in electronic music and instrument design, he helped develop unique instruments like the 42-string Pikasso guitar and the Ibanez PM series. As an educator, Metheny taught at the University of Miami and Berklee by age 19, later earning an honorary doctorate. He has won 20 Grammy Awards across 10 categories and was named an NEA Jazz Master in 2018. Inducted into the DownBeat Hall of Fame, he remains a dynamic force in jazz—mentoring new talent and continuing to tour globally. Performances at The Parker are supported by the Broward Performing Arts Foundation. This performance is sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
